CICC Africa Outreach Intern

About the CICC

The Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC) includes 2,500 civil society organizations in 150 different countries working in partnership to strengthen international cooperation with the ICC; ensure that the Court is fair, effective and independent; make justice both visible and universal; and advance stronger national laws that deliver justice to victims of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

The Internship

The intern will assist and report to the CICC Outreach Liaison for Africa. The internship can be full-time or part-time (2-3 days per week) and must be for a period of 3-4 months. Please note that this internship is unpaid.

Responsibilities

• Supporting outreach efforts for the CICC’s regional team, including efforts to increase ratification and
implementation of the Rome Statute for the ICC in the particular region in collaboration with civil society,
governments, and the media
• Monitoring developments on the ICC in the region, including contacting NGOs, government officials,
academics, parliamentarians, media who are working on the ICC in the region
• Coordinating communication with CICC members in the region
• Conducting membership outreach, including updating the membership database
• Undertaking special projects and assignments as needed, including administrative tasks

Qualifications

• Advanced undergraduate or graduate student in Law, International Relations, Human Rights, Political
Science, or related field
• Excellent written and oral communication, research and writing skills
• Knowledge of the ICC and/or Human Rights issues of the region preferred
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office software
• Ability to work independently and within the constraints of tight deadlines
• High level of cultural sensitivity, travel, work or internship experience in the region
• Previous experience in a nonprofit environment preferred
• The intern MUST be able to communicate in French and have excellent written and spoken English. Native speakers are especially encouraged to apply
• Interest in CICC’s mission
