South Asian Federalists

Dr. Arputharaj worked for many years as a professional Manager of Country and regional programs through Save the Children, Action Aid, and Lutheran World Relief and currently with USAID in Afghanistan.

Dr. Arputharaj has been very active in regional peace, security & policy issues. His Doctoral work in Sweden was in the area of Social Policy. He has written articles for Indian Fortnightly Magazines and a book entitled Small Arms Proliferation - A Big Problem. He has also conducted research and analysis of organizations working in the area of conflict resolution and peace building in 5 countries and documenting community coping mechanism in conflict and post conflict areas. Dr. Arputharaj has worked closely with the Asian Youth Centre, serving as Chairman for over a decade and as its overseas director from 1997-1999, on issues relating to children, environment and development, and has written a book critiquing the accomplishments of the Rio global environmental governance meetings.

From 2000 to 2004 Dr. Arputharaj served as International Executive Director of South Asia Partnership International where he fund raised 5 million $ ,diversified the global Budget and coordinated development work in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. During this time he founded a regional network –South Asian Small Arms Network, speaker at the UN Conference on Small Arms, July 2001 and member of the Advisory Board to constitute the National Commission on Small Arms, Government of Sri Lanka. During 2007 and 2008, he served as the Asia Regional Manager for Human Resources and Administration with Room to Read working in 8 South and South East Asian countries.
