International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect Internship
This internship is with the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect (ICRtoP). The Coalition is part of WFM’s program area of Creating Lasting Peace; Preventing Conflicts, Protecting Civilians and the internship will also cover issues that fall into this broader category of WFM activity. The intern will report to the Project Officer. The internship can be full-time or part-time (2-3 days per week) and must be for a period of 3-4 months. Please note that this internship is unpaid though full-time interns will receive a small per diem. There are also stipends available for those who apply. Responsibilities
• Conduct research on International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect related activities and draft memos
• Draft weekly newsletter tracking developments and references to RtoP around the world
• Update the ICRtoP website (www.responsibilitytoprotect.org)
• Attend meetings and workshops with UN delegates and representatives of NGOs and draft reports for the supervisor
• Assist with implementation of stewardship efforts, including donor correspondence and contacts
• Monitor events relating to the protection of civilians and prevention of armed conflict
• Undertake special projects and assignments related to the norm of the Responsibility to Protect and the goals of the Coalition
Qualifications
• Advanced undergraduate or graduate student working towards a degree in International Relations, Politics or related field
• Excellent written and oral communication, research and writing skills
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office software
• Ability to work independently and within the constraints of tight deadlines
• Previous experience in a nonprofit environment preferred
• Proficiency in English required, additional language proficiencies are a plus, particularly French or Spanish
• Interest in WFM’s mission and familiarity with the Responsibility to Protect norm.
