London, United Kingdom

One World Trust (OWT) was founded in 1951 by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for World Government. OWT strives to educate decision-makers on developing global rules and accountable organisations in order to achieve the eradication of poverty, injustice and war. Members conduct research on practical ways to make global organisations more responsive to the people they affect and on how the rule of law can be applied equally to all.

One World Trust has about 2,000 supporters throughout the United Kingdom and over 1,500 internationally. OWT holds lectures and workshops relating to their program areas at the parliament of the United Kingdom.

The organization's current programs include:

Global Accountability
The Global Accountability Project (GAP) works to ensure that the most powerful global organizations are answerable to the people they affect most. The Project focuses on three types of organizations that operate at the global level: intergovernmental organizations, transnational corporations and international non-governmental organizations, developing a space for cross-sectoral learning. Through its Parliamentary Oversight Project, OWT partners with Federal Trust and Democratic Audit to conduct research on global accountability. OWT also hosts an NGO Forum, which provides space for civil society groups to share learning and resources on accountability.

Peace and Security
Building on the report "The Responsibility to Protect" by the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty, the Trust is undertaking its own research, following developments of the Security Council and encouraging support for international political agreement on a global framework for conflict prevention and resolution. The Trust also monitors the progress of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other transitional justice mechanisms. Through research, information dissemination and advocacy, members support efforts of reconciliation based on access to justice and redress for survivors of grave human rights abuses. As part of a new project, the Trust researches the potentials of the growing involvement of citizens at global level based on multilateral democratic pluralism for the development of global policy, international law and decision making in response to threats to wider global human security including armed conflict.

Sustainable Development
The Trust is monitoring progress on the Millennium Development Goals and seeking ways in which the British government can enhance its role in the achievement of these goals. On the issue of climate change, the Trust cooperates with Action for a Global Climate Community, a non-profit organization that seeks to bring together willing countries to work aggressively within the Kyoto agreement to reduce carbon emissions.
