The Conference of Parties (COP21) is currently taking place in Paris, as the last part of a series of negotiations on climate action. The goal of the conference is to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate action that will keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius.
Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges threatening humanity today. It affects public health, poverty, hunger, human rights and war, among others. As part of its environmental governance pillar, WFM believes that fundamental issues relating to the development of international democracy and global governance are inextricably tied to issues of global governance for sustainable development and the environment.
The World Federalist Movement supports these important negotiations at COP21 and is hopeful that a meaningful and attainable agreement can be made among the world powers for climate action and sustainable development.
